Invasion of the Body Snatchers
By A.L. Sanchez
I might find some solace in a solstice
that never arrives
like the self-soothing prophets
predict in
discarded needle alleyways
Or on massive church stages
crowd-funded
with Alien invader headlights
that bends me into a
bog reptile
an ancient, but embryonic
sack of unidentifiable
matter—
I think I may be less like myself
and more like someone
similar
in the nose, or in the
turn of the mouth
that draws open with rows of
carnivorous teeth
pointing and howling in an
attempt at
their language
Bones buckling and breaking
beneath
flesh imitation
and soul substitution—
I think I may be less like myself
and more like a puddle
reflection blurred and
buzzing with the
attack of raindrops
that succeeds for a single moment
changing my name
and history
planting a parasite
in the curve of my intestines
so no one
from the 5th to 50th fabric star
ever knows the difference.
